Towing instead of lifting
Tow tractors do not lift the load; they couple to a trailer or a trolley and pull it. Where a forklift truck moves one pallet per run, a tow tractor with several trolleys behind it takes far more material on the same run.
That is why a tow tractor is clearly more efficient than a forklift truck over long routes with many stops. This is the standard class for production line feeding and in-plant logistics.

What decides the choice
In choosing a tow tractor, the layout of the route matters as much as the towing capacity.
Towing Capacity
Options from 2 to 35 tonnes. The calculation covers not only weight but also floor gradient and the number of trailers.
Driving Position
Seated and stand-on models; the run time and the number of times the operator gets on and off decide which one fits.
Trailer Systems
With LiftRunner and similar systems, containers and pallets travel directly on the trailer and there is no need to transfer them.
Turning Radius
In practice the tightest turn on the route decides how many trailers can be towed.

Frequently asked questions about tow tractors
How many trailers can we tow?
Tractor capacity, trailer type, floor gradient and manoeuvring space decide it together. In practice the limit is usually set not by towing power but by the tightest turn on the route.
Does it make sense to buy a tow tractor instead of a forklift truck?
It depends on the work. If you move pallets from one point to one other point, a forklift truck is more practical. If you call at several stations on the same run and the distance is long, a tow tractor is clearly more efficient.
Can we use our existing trolleys?
Usually yes. We check the coupling type and the compatibility of the braking system. If you have no trolley standard, we may need to recommend standardisation alongside the route design.
