Machine – Pedestrian Interaction
Machine – Pedestrian Interaction
Wearable UWB tags detect how close a pedestrian is with high precision: the machine slows to a safe speed and operator and pedestrian are warned at the same moment.
- UWB technology
- 360° proximity detection
- Two-stage speed limiting
- Vibrating tag
The system knows, even when the pedestrian is out of sight
The machine–pedestrian safety system uses high-precision UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology to measure continuously how far every tag-wearing pedestrian is from the truck.
Once a pedestrian comes closer than a pre-set distance, the system limits the truck to a safe speed in two stages. Audible and visual signals mean the operator notices even a pedestrian standing in a blind spot.
- Operator warning: An audible and visual signal in the cab.
- Pedestrian warning: The tag vibrates more strongly the closer the truck gets.
- Truck intervention: Automatic speed limiting in two stages.

Pedestrians and trucks share the same aisle
Blind corners, tall loads and constant noise make it hard for pedestrian and operator to spot each other in time.
- The operator cannot see a pedestrian in the blind spot.
- In a noisy environment the pedestrian does not hear the approaching truck.
- An audible warning never reaches a worker with hearing loss or wearing ear protection.
- Speed rules depend entirely on the operator paying attention.
- UWB measures proximity through a full 360°, with no need for line of sight.
- Tag vibration warns a pedestrian who cannot hear the alarm.
- Truck speed is limited automatically in two stages.
- Multiple zones and distances are easy to configure.
From tag to speed limit
The system works indoors and outdoors with no cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
Tagging
Pedestrians wear a UWB tag on the wrist, as a badge or on a lanyard.
Distance measurement
The truck unit continuously measures the distance to every tag around it.
Staged warning
At the defined distance, operator and pedestrian are warned simultaneously.
Speed limiting
If the pedestrian keeps getting closer, the truck drops to a safe speed.
Configurable to your site
Distances and zones are set to match how busy your site is and which truck types you run.
360° detection
Pedestrians are detected with the same precision in every direction around the truck.
Works without a network
No cellular or Wi-Fi infrastructure required.
Indoors and outdoors
The same system in the warehouse, the yard and the loading area.
Multiple zones
Different distance and speed rules are easy to define.
Tag options
Silicone wristband, badge holder and lanyard versions.
Expandable infrastructure
Works alongside the machine-to-machine and zone-based speed solutions.
Anywhere pedestrians and trucks work side by side
Warehouse Aisles
Detects a pedestrian in the blind spot between racks without needing line of sight.
Production Areas
Maintains distance between line-feed trucks and the people working there.
Loading Docks
Works in the open air as well, with no network infrastructure.
Noisy Facilities
The vibrating tag reaches the worker an audible warning cannot.
Safe even when the pedestrian cannot be seen.
- 360° proximity detection with UWB, independent of line of sight.
- Audible and visual warning for the operator, vibration for the pedestrian.
- Automatic two-stage speed limiting.
As an authorised STILL Arser dealer and service partner we run the whole process from a single point of contact: site analysis, installation, operator training and after-sales support.
