Measure first, choose the truck second
Most warehouse investments begin with a request for a truck: “we need a reach truck”. Yet the problem the truck is meant to solve is often created in another step. Picking looks slow, while the real loss is in pallets put away at the wrong location.
That is why we start a project with the process rather than with the truck. We record what happens in each of the six steps, where the time is spent, and put a figure on the bottleneck. Sometimes the answer is a new truck, sometimes only a change of layout — we say both with the same clarity.
- Measurement: Aisles, racking, round times and movement counts are recorded on site.
- Design: The process model is built around your order and production structure.
- Implementation: Installation, operator training and a second measurement after commissioning.
The intralogistics chain
The steps goods pass through from the moment they enter your warehouse until they leave it. Each has its own bottleneck, its own truck families and its own measure.
1 · Goods Receiving
Unloading, checking and buffer stock. A delay here carries through the whole chain.
2 · Putaway
The step that uses the vertical volume of the building; space efficiency is decided here.
3 · Order Picking
The step that takes up more than half of the labour cost.
4 · Production Supply
Line feeding. The target is rhythm, not speed.
5 · Packing and Shipping
Consolidation and staging in front of the dock; the bottleneck nobody sees.
6 · Goods Issue
The only step the customer sees. A mistake here wipes out the previous five.
